بدعوة من القس نيل سميث من كنيسة سفتن الاتحادية وبالتنسيق مع السيد قيصر طراد رئيس الجمعية الإسلامية الأسترالية والشيخ ناصر زوي رئيس اتحاد الجمعيات العربية والأفريقية والسيد محمد الزمتر عن بيت السلام.
جمعت مناسبة الإفطار 40 عضو من الكنيسة مع 40 شخص من مختلف المؤسسات الإسلامية من خلفيات لبنانية ومصرية وليبية وموريتانية وبنغالية في جو من الصداقة والوئام وحسن النية.
وقد استمتع الحضور بتلاوة عطرة للقرآن الكريم من المشايخ القراء الأفاضل المبعوثون من الجماهيرية الليبية العظمى لإحياء شهر رمضان في مختلف المساجد والمصليات في سيدني. بالتنسيق مع اتحاد الجمعيات العربية الإفريقية. وقد رحب القس نيل سميث بالمسلمين في الصالة التابعة لكنيسته وقال إن التزام المسلمين بعقيدتهم بإقامة الصلوات اليومية الخمس وصيام شهر رمضان كان لها تأثير دوماً عليه وأنه كان قد سنح له زيارة بعض المساجد وقد عاين انكباب المسلمين على صلاتهم مما دعاه لأن يتمنى أن يرا هذا الاهتمام بالدين عند المسيحيين.حيث يقبلوا على الكنائس للصلاة.
وبدوره قام السيد قيصر طراد رئيس الجمعية الإسلامية الأسترالية بشكر القيمين على الكنيسة والسيد نيل سميث لمد يد وفتح باب الحوار ولحسن ضيافتهم وصداقتهم مع الجالية الإسلامية وخاصة في مثل هذا الوقت حيث أن هذا الموقف يوري شجاعة واستعداد من الكنيسة أن يحاولوا ليتعرفوا بأنفسهم على المسلمين دون الخضوع للآراء المشبوهة التي تنال من المسلمين من وقت لآخر.
وقال السيد طراد أن المسلمين جميعاً يعترفون بعيسى كرسول عظيم أرسله الله عز وجل بالإنجيل وتمنى لو أن باقي أعضاء المجتمع الأسترالي يعطون أنفسهم الفرصة كما فعل أتباع كنيسة سفتن لليتعرفوا بأنفسهم على المسلمين والإسلام بدل الاستماع إلى طرف آخر مغرض ولا شك أنهم سيجدون في المسلمين أصدقاء يتمنون لهم كل الخير.

The event brought together 40 members of the church along with 40 Muslims from various backgrounds including: Lebanese, Libyan, Mauritanian, Egyptian and Bangladeshi in an atmosphere of friendship and goodwill.
The gathering was treated to a short recitation from the Holy Qur’an by visiting Libyan recite Sheikh Saleh who was followed by a song from Stephanie from the Uniting Church.
Rev. Neil Smith welcomed the Muslims to his hall and said that the devotion of Muslims to their faith with the five daily prayers and the fasting have always impressed him and that he had on occasions visited mosques to observe the prayers and expressed a wish that more Christians would visit their churches and pray.
Keysar Trad of the Islamic Friendship Association of Australia thanked the Uniting Church and Rev. Neil Smith for their extending their hand of hospitality and friendship to the Muslim community, particularly at a time of apprehension, he said that these gestures show courage and a willingness to go beyond the rhetoric to find out for yourself who the Muslims are.
Mr. Trad added that Muslims accept Christ as a great messenger of God who had brought the Gospel to humanity. He wished that members of society would avail themselves the opportunity, as have the members of this church, to find out more about Muslims and Islam from the Muslims, rather than third hand interpretations, you will find us to be “your friends and well-wishers”.
The meeting was also attended by a number of priests and Imams and community leaders.
